Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does The Slower Move do?

We help seniors and their families navigate the full process of a later-life transition, which can include selling the home, deciding what to do with belongings, coordinating a move, figuring out next living arrangements, and making a space feel settled again. We also work with seniors who want to stay in their homes and need help making that realistic long-term.

Where do I even start?

With a conversation. Most families come to us not knowing what they need yet, they just know it feels like too much. We help you figure out what the priorities are, what order things should happen in, and what kind of support makes sense for your situation.

Do we have to use all of your services, or can we just hire you for one thing?

You can hire us for one thing. Some families only need help with the home sale. Others only need move management or organizing help. We offer a full range of services but there's no requirement to use all of them.

My parent is resistant to the idea of moving. Can you still help?

Yes. This is one of the most common situations we work with. We can consult with families on how to approach those conversations, and we also offer aging-in-place planning for seniors who want to stay home, which is sometimes the right answer.

How is this different from just hiring a regular real estate agent?

A traditional real estate agent handles the transaction. We handle everything around it: the emotional weight, the logistics, the belongings, the timing, and the coordination with family members who may not all agree.

The home sale is one part of what we do, not the whole thing.

Do you work with the senior directly, or mostly with the family?

Both!

We follow the senior's lead whenever possible. Our goal is never to make someone feel like decisions are being made around them. When family members are involved, we help everyone stay on the same page.

What does the staging service include, and do we have to use it?

Staging is available to our real estate clients as part of the transition process. It's not required, but it typically helps homes sell faster and for more money. We handle it with the same care as everything else — sourcing thoughtfully, working with what the home already has where we can.

How long does a typical transition take?

It depends entirely on the situation. Some transitions move quickly because there's urgency. Others take months because the family needs time to make decisions, sort belongings, or wait for the right next step. We work at whatever pace the situation calls for.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in central New Hampshire and primarily serve the greater Concord area and surrounding communities. Reach out if you're not sure whether we cover your area. We're happy to talk through it.

How do we get started?

Reach out for a free consultation. We'll ask some questions, listen to where things stand, and give you an honest sense of what support might look like. There's no pressure and no commitment required from that first conversation.
